Dawn Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer): RAVENCLAW
Although family is the focus of Dawn’s arc, knowledge is almost always her motivator. Nearly all of Dawn’s actions and interests are the result of her innate curiosity and interest making the unknown…known.
Dawn begs to join in the gang’s research, calling herself “Junior Watcher” in season 7. Before that, she sates her thirst for knowledge by eavesdropping on the conversations of “big people”. She breaks into stores not to steal commodities (at least at first) but the knowledge within: twice in season 5 does Dawn sneak peaks into forbidden books and journals in search of answers.
Even Dawn’s fights with her family are about knowledge! The largest tension between Dawn and her big sis Buffy is Buffy’s tendency to withhold information from Dawn or outright tell her sister to “close her eyes” from the brutality of their fantastic world. The inquisitive Ravenclaw will not stand for this. Thus, she squints through the blinds at shop windows to see dead bodies, sneaks away to learn morbid stories in Spike’s crypt, breaks into the morgue to examine Joyce’s body one last time, and even runs into a burning city and up a falling tower based on nothing but a dying robot’s allusion that Dawn may uncover a glimpse of a thought-dead sister.
Dawn has the Ravenclaw’s “ready mind”, eager to look, see, and understand no matter the cost. As she says to Buffy, “You think think I haven’t been watching you?”
